It’s that time again on The World Cup of Food when we have to select one country’s cuisine to advance in our competition and another to be left behind. This week, the decision is between Denmark and Ireland, the winner earning a place in the round of thirty-two against India.
Danish dishes on The World Cup of Food:
Irish dishes on The World Cup of Food:
- Shepherd’s Pie (with Irish cuisine overview)
- Corned Beef with Parsley Sauce and Carrot and Parsnip Mash
This week’s decision was relatively easy. Danish meatballs, frikadeller, were excellent, and the variety of toppings available on the open-faced sandwiches smørrebrød presented a limitless outlet for food creativity. However, our exploration of Irish food, possibly because it is more familiar, to be fair, has been much more satisfying. Comforting meals like shepherd’s pie and corned beef and the possibility of future dishes like Irish stew have earned Ireland a place against India in the next round.
